Amish Wooden Bookcases: For those that treasure books an Amish wooden bookcase is likely to be a much coveted item of furniture. But even for those of us who are not the bookish type, these beautifully built pieces of furniture can be very useful indeed. This is particularly the case since they can be customized according to individual specifications. They can be modified to create the kind of display cabinet you always dreamed of. Or they can be constructed in a way that part of the unit is built to house books and part of it acts as a display cabinet! The solid wooden shelves also mean that heavy books or other weighty items are easily supported.
Of course, this is assuming that you are satisfied with the overall layout of the kitchen when it comes to the base and wall cabinets that are in place. Even though you are keeping existing cabinets, there are still upgrades you can do that will provide features that are found in modern day kitchens. Some things you can add are dividers in cabinets for cookie sheets, drawers for organization of silverware, pull out drawers in cabinets to allow for the easy retrieval of pots and pans, a lazy Susan in corner cabinets to better utilize that space, and pull out trash cans and recycling bins. There are others, but these upgrades will make you feel like you have brand new cabinets, but again, at much less cost than cabinet replacement.
The most common stock cabinets are usually made of engineered wood with a melamine finish. Semi custom cabinetry offers more options and is typically constructed of engineered wood or plywood with solid wood doors or faces. The materials and workmanship tends to be higher quality than that of stock cabinetry. Custom cabinetry construction, materials and finishes are usually superior to that of stock and semi-custom. The drawer fronts, doors, and face frames are generally solid wood.

But since a great kitchen is one of most desired amenities in a home, there is no better place to put your money. My wife and I recently purchased an existing home and, of course, the kitchen was extremely outdated and it was obvious to me that this was going to be the first of many home improvement projects my wife was going to look to me to get going. After some initial planning and design research, my wallet lucked out when it was determined that a kitchen cabinet door refacing would provide for a fresh new look without a total replacement of the cabinets.
